Top Alternative Gifts For Father’s Day

Father's Day is a big event and it will soon be here! Just a few more weeks and it will be time to show appreciation to the men in our lives.

Now some men are quite traditional and stuck in their ways. Many of these men will like the mass produced stuff you can get in the supermarket; the novelty paraphernalia that is available that proclaims them to be ‘number 1 dad'. But I wanted to share with you some fab alternative gift ideas for the man who perhaps isn't as stuck in their ways.

First of all, you will want to get them one of these alternative father's day cards. There is a fantastic range available for the father figures in your life – whether that is your dad, stepdad, grandfather or you are buying on behalf of your child for their Daddy. The Daddy Heart Doodle card is a particular favourite of mine – in fact, many of the Doodles are as they are cute and so unique – a great alternative to other cards on the market!

Does your dad love food and drink? Whilst tradition would suggest getting some of his favourite chocolate or his favourite tipple, I'd consider something for them to whip up a storm in the kitchen. A new appliance that he can have a lot of fun with or even a home brewing kit so he can make his own beer!

If he likes to think he's a little green fingered, you could put that to the test with a Grow Your Own kit – there's so many out there now and it is a great way to get him to prove his assumption about himself!

There are also some fab gifts out there for the gamers and sci-fi obsessives. Many dads try to play it cool and pretend they don't still love the ‘nerdy' stuff they did as a kid – but mention something like Star Wars or a game from their childhood such as Tetris or Super Mario and watch them become a child again! Gifts that play into their childish side are always a great choice and are a great alternative to the traditional gifts people get.

Finally I wanted to suggest one more gift idea that ties in with a traditional gift you could get your loved one. It is traditional to get our loved ones a gift that is suitable for their hobby or job – new golf balls or tees for a golfer, a new set of flights for a darts player, cufflinks for the man who has to wear a suit every day to work etc. Why not get them a gift that is a little more outside the box but still plays into the traditional side of things?

How about a round of golf at a new course or a coffee gift card for the stressed business man with the gorgeous cufflinks so he can save some cash on his daily coffee? These things suit their everyday life without necessarily being a popular gift that your siblings or other family members may also get them.

These are just a few alternative gift ideas – do you have any you'd like to share?
