How To Put Ads On Squarespace Websites

Wanting to learn how to put ads on Squarespace websites.

Squarespace doesn’t currently have an intergrated ad network application, instead you’ll be required to copy and paste the code from your ad provider into your website directly.

I promise that isn’t as hard as it may sound and I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of doing so in this tutorial.

While not all ad networks support Squarespace websites the largest ad network, Google Adsense does.

I’ll be using Google Adsense during this example however if you’re working with another ad network you should still be able to follow this tutorial and replace the Google steps with steps from your own ad network instead.

If you have any trouble contact them and they’ll direct you to the correct place.

Ensure Your Website Complies With Google Adsense

If you’ve planned to create a content website I’d advise ensuring that your content complies with Google Adsense during the niche decision phase.

Google has a responsibility to the advertises for whom it’s displaying adverts on your site on behalf of. As a result, they will reject sites with the following;

  • Mature or adult content
  • Shocking content
  • Excessive profanity
  • Malware or adware
  • Drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Sales of alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, weapons, or ammunition
  • Illegal activity
  • Hateful content or discrimination against religion, race, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, etc.

If you’ve already created your website and you are concerned about the sites content and Googles Adsense guidelines then I would advise you revise the content prior to following the tutorial below.

Create A Google Adsense Account

If you haven’t already you’ll want to start by creating a Google Adsense account.

This process takes around five minutes and requires you to submit basic contact information and your website URL.

Verify Your Website

Once you’re signed in to your Google Adsense account successfully you’ll want to verify your Squarespace website on the account.

To do this you’ll want to take the code from your Adsense homepage and insert it into the <head> of your Squarespace website.

To do this navigate to the settings page on your website.

Then click advanced.

Then click the code injection link.

You’ll want to copy the code from Google and place it in the text box under HEAD.

Then submit.

You will not notice any change to your website from doing this.

Confirm Site Verification With Google

Go back to Google Adsense and click verify.

You should see that your site has now been verified with Google.

Google will now begin placing ads on your website.

This is done automatically, Google uses advanced machine learning to understand where the ads are most effective within a website.

If you would like to put ads in specific places you can follow this tutorial however it will likely result in lower earnings when compared to Googles AI.
