7 Ways to Break Out of A Rut and Chase Your Dreams

You only live once. Sometimes we forget that and get stuck in a life rut, forgetting that we once had a dream.

If you have a dream you have put on the back burner because you have been too afraid to pursue it, now is the time to break out of the chains of the daily struggle and chase it. Here are some ways you can get started.

Create A Vision Board

Putting your dreams down on paper makes them easier to see and plan. You can write down all aspects of your fantasy on paper or, better still, create a vision board.

Get a large piece of wood or board – a whiteboard or a cork notice board are good options. Write down details of your dream on scraps of paper or post-it notes. Add photographs, pictures cut out of magazines, maps, and anything that helps build a visual explanation of your dream and how to achieve it. Having a visual representation in front of you will make the goal clear in your head, and you can start to plan how to attain it.

Banish Negativity

Surround yourself with positive people who admire and encourage your notions. Doubters' negative comments will slowly eat away at you, and your passion and confidence will wane.

Share your dream with friends or loved ones who you know will support you at every turn and try to assist you when they can.

Plan a Big Adventure

If your dream is to live in another country, it will make sense to do some traveling before you commit to packing up and living somewhere else to see if you really do like the place.

If you dream of becoming a star of Broadway in New York or a famous singer in Las Vegas, grab your passport, visitor insurance for the USA, and an American Express card and get over there.

When you are at the destination of your dreams, do everything you can to find out how to pursue your dream further, such as enrolling in a drama class, finding a place to live, or going to an audition. When you have set up the first stages on the path to your dreams, you can come back home and pack up your old life.

Do Your Research

Your dreams most probably aren't going to just magically happen unless your fairy godmother appears, so it is up to you to do everything you can to set the wheels in motion. If your dream is to open a cake shop, you need to research every aspect of getting the wheels in motion. Read books, do online research, visit and talk to people who have done the same thing. Study for any qualifications you require and purchase any permits and visas you are legally required to have. Start small – perhaps bake some cakes and ask friends and family to give their honest opinion on how they taste. Set up a stall at a local market or supply a cafe with your goods. Once you have your foot on the first rung of the ladder, the only way is up.

Don't Waste A Minute

Life is short. Don't waste another second putting off until tomorrow what can be done today. If you really want to achieve your dream, you must devote every second of your time to pursuing it. Compile a plan of action and start work on it now! The worst thing you can do is nothing and regret it for the rest of your life.

Change Your Routine

Most of us get stuck in a rut easily if we are in the habit of going through the same routine every day.

You can start to break out of the rut a little bit at a time if you find that way easier than making one big drastic change. Start by getting out of bed at a different time in the morning and going for a walk before work or changing how you do your hair or make-up. Minor changes will empower you and give you the confidence to make more changes until you eventually break free of all restrictions that stand in the way of pursuing your dream.

Be Sensible

Although chasing your dream is a great thing to do, you still need to have one foot on the ground. There is no real sense in chucking in a well-paid job, packing your bags, and leaving all your friends and family in the hope of becoming a world-famous ballerina if you cannot dance.

Be realistic and set a goal that is attainable with dedication and hard work. Always ensure that you can support yourself financially and do not end up on the streets of New York homeless and alone because your dreams of being the next Hollywood star were not realistic. Be sensible and have financial and emotional support behind you. Get the proper training and be the best you can be.

Never ever give up on your dream – if you don't have a dream, how will you have a dream come true?
