So, you know how to womble. You’re now adding extra points onto your loyalty card and saving money on your shopping thanks to the Asda Price Guarantee.
Based on our knowledge of the Asda Price Guarantee (APG) system we can now manipulate our shopping at Asda to guarantee we get 10% cashback on our food shopping – even if we used wombled receipts and therefore never paid for it in the first place. This is often known as the ASDA Price Guarantee hack.
We do this by creating what’s known as a ‘target shop’.
Asda uses data collated by the online supermarket comparison website MySupermarket to generate APG’s based on whether it’s cheaper or more expensive than the other big supermarket chains.
This means that before you go in store you can see what items cost more, or less in Asda when compared to any other major supermarket.
This information is going to help you create a targeted shop, you can use this information to purchase a vast number of different products from Asda.
Asda Price Guarantee Example
Let’s assume you want to purchase some butter. Simply log on to the MySupermarket online shopping comparison website and search for butter. Here’s an example of a result I found. You’ll see that this particular brand’s 500g tub is cheapest in Asda.
Buy this and it’s going to cost you £0.94 – it’s also not going to contribute towards an Asda Price Guarantee.
However, another example of butter is the 500g tub of Flora Light Spread. This butter isn’t cheapest in Asda. In fact, it’s much cheaper in Morrisons.
If you bought this butter for £1.70 you’re going to get the difference plus 10% (provided you target Morrisons, and the rest of your shop has competitive prices against Morrisons) This means that you’re £1.70 butter is going to provide you with £0.80 on an APG. Making it just £0.90 a tub.
Asda Price Guarantee With Promotions
Stores often use promotions such as buy 2 get 1 free, or buy 2 for £5 as hooks to try and get you to buy more. It’s important to know how these work in a targeted shop.
What you want to look for is other stores running promotions instead of Asda.
Here is a promotion currently being run by Morrisons, any three of the following items for £5.
Below is three items I have chosen to purchase. These three items are going to cost me £5.00. The way Asda see’s it each item cost me £1.67 (£5.00 divided by 3)
Asda is therefore, going to match each individual item (provided they’re not on offer in Asda).
So the chips are £1.67 in Morrisons (on the 3 for £5) and £2.50 in Morrisons. They are therefore going to give you a £1.08 APG voucher.
The pizza is in a deal with Asda however because you’re only buying one and not two, the offer will be calculated based on the pizza being £3.49. In Morrisons, the same pizza is £1.67 (based on the 3 for £5 deal) is therefore going to generate an APG of £2.17.
Finally in our 3 for £5 deal we have ice-cream. We’re paying £1.67 in Morrisons (based on the deal) and £2.50 in Asda generating an APG of £1.08.
So, we’ve purchased three items here in Asda. In Morrisons, these three items would cost £5.00 however in Asda they would cost £8.59. This would generate an APG of £4.09. Making the actual cost of all 3 items £0.91.
