SiteGround Review | The Right Host for Your Site?

If you recently read my review of hosting platform GoDaddy. You could be confused as to why I would ever review another hosting platform on this blog. I mean, GoDaddy is pretty amazing. However, hear me out…

I have a degree in computing, and as my blog has continued to grow and I’ve used a sub-domain to host my girlfriend Helen’s sewing blog. I’ve required more space. This space comes at a rather high premium on GoDaddy (and rightly so, once again, customer service = amazing!). An so around twelve months ago I started shopping for a hosting alternative, and ended up with SiteGround.

SiteGround is a great alternative to GoDaddy for the more experienced website owner. It's low cost prices and customisable packages making hosting an ever growing website like mine affordable!

SiteGrounds customer service is mainly Eastern European based. Just one of the ways it manages to keep it’s costs so low. However, if you know what you’re doing with your web hosting and are purely looking for more bang for your buck when it comes to the amount of bandwidth you’re getting then SiteGround sounds like the right company for you!


I’ve previously mentioned how difficult website management can be. No backend hosting is going to be a walk in the park. 

However, it’s important to note that SiteGround has the flexibility and services required giving you the ability to monitor and change your sites settings as required.

Ease of Use

This pretty much follows on from the functionality. Again, I’m not going to say that navigating SiteGround is easy.

Especially if you have little or no prior website hosting or backend experience. It’s simply on par with other similar services – which are all unfortunatly complex.


In the twelve months or so I’ve been with SiteGround I’ve contacted them twice. On both occasions I have had to open a ticket online and wait. 

A response often takes anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days. In my case every problem I contacted them in regards to they have helped resolve. The only down side is that it’s not quite as instant as I’d have wanted.

For example, let’s assume overnight I get a surge of traffic. One of my articles has gone viral. My website can’t deal with the pressure of hundreds of thousands of new visitors and crashes. I need more bandwidth ASAP. However, in SiteGrounds case I have to open a ticket and wait… (or maybe Tweet them on Twitter… like A LOT!). If I was with GoDaddy one call and I’d have more room straight away and be able to really capitalize on the opportunity. (Although it’s likely GoDaddy’s increase in bandwidth would cost a lot more when compared to SiteGround)

It’s worth mentioning that SiteGround do have a 24/7 support line. I just choose not to use it as I don’t feel as though the quality is there (from my experience twelve months ago, it may have changed). I only end up more frustrated.

Ensuring your website is safe and secure for your customers is highly important. No more so than if you’re going to be taking orders on your website or getting users to sign up with email addresses, usernames and passwords.

So, it’s good to know that SiteGround wrote 800+ WAF rules to fix zero day vulnerabilities in the last 12 months. They also provide free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate with each account.



SSD-based shared hosting solutions start at just £2.75 per month excluding VAT (equivalent to €3.95).

However, there are also larger packages such as;
Grow Big designed for ~25,000 visits a month (£3.95 a month)
GoGeek designed for ~100,000 visits a month (£7.95 a month) 

Web Hosting
In conclusion, if you know what you’re doing when it comes to web hosting and you’re wanting that added space to really grow your site and improve it’s speed then I really feel as though SiteGround ticks all the boxes. If you’re still unsure, then I believe it’s worth paying the extra for the amount of one to one support you’ll receive from the staff at GoDaddy.
